Re: Request for Member Item Funds

Dear Assemblywoman Del Monte:

The Town Board purchased 108 acres of farmland located west of the Town Hall on the south side of Upper Mountain Road in December 1999. The parcel is currently designated for general town purposes. Our intention is the eventual phased development of a town park with athletic fields and recreation areas, since the Town of Cambria does not have such a facility. This development would be in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Town’s 1997 Comprehensive Plan.

A Town Park Planning Committee has been appointed and held its’ first meeting. They are conducting a needs analysis of recreational and leisure opportunities within the Town of Cambria, focusing on current and future demand, an assessment of availability and including the interests of youth through senior citizens. Subsequent actions of the committee will produce an orderly and phased plan for development of a town park/recreation area.

The committee’s budget includes $2,500 for administrative expenses, including research and travel to study other municipal park sites; $4,500 for engineer consulting services including preparation of maps and plans, liaison with various agencies and support for planning meetings. A visual screening buffer of trees would be desirable between the town property and adjacent building lots, estimated cost of $10,000. Planting could be completed well in advance of the phased development.

Your assistance in obtaining State funding to offset one-half of the above expenses would be most appreciated. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Wright H. Ellis

Town of Cambria

Dear Supervisor Ellis:

I will be happy to give your request serious consideration. Please understand that I receive many requests for funding assistance and I try to help as many worthwhile organizations and projects as I can, however, I cannot help everyone.

For your information, past experience tells us that it sometimes takes up to two years before a project actually receives their money due to the processing and administrative requirements which are required by the Administering Agency, the Division of Budget, the Attorney General’s office and the Comptroller. I would ask for patience and cooperation when dealing with your specific agency should your application be selected.

Your project will be given every possible consideration during the selective process.

Sincerely,

George D. Maziarz
Senator, 61st District
